Three weeks ago I moved 172 miles away from home into a 10’ x 15’ dorm room with a girl I didn’t know. Three weeks later, I do not hesitate calling Bordner 300 home and considering my floor mates my family, I have turned my 10’ x 15’ dorm room into a personalized, cozy bedroom and I have people in my life I already refer to as my ‘best friends’.
I think it is safe to say that I am in love with this whole college thing and despite what my mother thinks, it is not because of the raging Friday night parties, hot boy galore or the what she imagines, waterfalls made solely out of Peach Taaka. I am in love with it here because I can yell down the hallway when I need an outfit opinion, homework help or just someone to go to dinner with. I love that I can lay in bed with my door open and everyone who walks by stops in and says hi and laughs at my “Pun of the Day” written on my whiteboard. I even love being completely out of breath, sweating through my shirt and hitting 20,000 steps during my walk from class back to my room. Don’t get me wrong, the Friday night parties are fun, the boys are nice to look at and the Peach Taaka is beginning to taste like water, but that is besides the point. The point is, college is everything I imagined it would be and more and it is has only just begun.
So here’s to the beginning of eating PB & J for almost every meal, weekly Target runs, new friends, That’s 70’s Show marathons, reevaluating my college career while getting ready for my 8 AM, being #1 of my Fitbit friends, and regretting buying a white duvet cover after every night out.
Cheers to freshman year (and Labor Day weekend) —
I miss you Jordyn. I’m glad you’re enjoying college though. Have fun and remember: Stay Golden Ponyboy.
